Concept
This is an interactive storytelling experience that combines history, exploration, and puzzle-solving. Set in a fictionalized reconstruction of a 20th-century Dutch coal mine, players navigate through a point-and-click environment inspired by escape rooms. Uncover clues hidden in historical documents, mining tools, and personal artifacts that tells the story about the coal mines and the people who worked underground to ultimately find your way to the elevator shaft and escape.
Purpose
This project aims to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the Dutch coal mining heritage. Many archives, photos, and artifacts dont get the attention they deserve. This prototype demonstrates how interactive media can make history more accessible and engaging for a new generation.
Technology
- Developed using Unity and exported for WebGL.
- Point-and-click mechanics inspired by classic adventure games.
- Interactive objects reveal historical information from mining archives.
- Optimized for browsers without requiring plugins or downloads.
Disclaimer
Since this is a prototype many of the listed features and/or concepts are not implemented. This includes the following:
- Clicking on objects to see historic information and clues.
- Any form of progression to move towards the exit of the mines.
- Many 3D assets to make it more visually appealing.
